I'm a big fan of night walks

Last Thursday, Philip unexpectedly didn't have to work, so we had an extra family night, yay!  We made dinner, then did a quick bath, and got the kids all ready for bed: PJs, vitamins, the works.  Then we went on a neighborhood walk with coats over pjs.  It was such a pretty night out, we walked extra far.  Sabrina was extra creative in her follow the leader walk, and loved sporting her pink pajamas into the night.  Our tuck in was easy too, as everything was 90% done!  Ahhh... must repeat soon!

January 31st, 2012

Sabrina had a nice family day with Daddy & Samuel.  Then we met at the seafood restaurant for dinner.  Sabrina made friends with 2 ladies & a gentleman sitting outside on the patio with us.  Then she proceeded to ignore her family for her new friends!  They were so sweet to her & Samuel, and seemed to get a kick out our little ones.  The man loaned her his hat...

And she rocked it!

We let her wear her birthday dress from Grandma & Papa - so pretty!
Here she is with Daddy...

Samuel had a great time exploring the patio, and both kids ate well.

Then we dropped Samuel off at the house for some 1 on 1 time with Aunt Hanna. (Thanks, Hanna!) And headed to the movie theater for the critically acclaimed film, The Chipmunks, Chipwrecked.

Popcorn & Sprite topped off our movie dining experience, and the movie was about as intellectually stimulating as expected.  Our hearts were happy though, as Sabrina laughed and giggled regularly and often throughout the movie.  Nothing feels better than hearing your LO thoroughly enjoying herself.

Last stop was home again for some ice cream & chocolate syrup.  I hope she had as good a birthday night as her parents did.  4 is worthy of celebration!  Happy Birthday to Sabrina!

Samuel's words

I love to make lists, and since this one so dear & joyful to my heart, I want to jot this down before I forget. The new thing to share is that Samuel is using a whole lot more verbal words now.  Philip and I love to compare notes on the latest & greatest we hear out of his mouth:
Hi
Bye
Shoes
Wawa
Bird
Mama
Dada
Tree
Peas (Please)
Eat

I know there is more, but I'll just add to this as we go.  It's still a short list, but so fun to hear him attempt new words.

Update 2/20/12
Yeah
Whoa
uh oh
When he covers his eyes, uncovers them and says the right tones (if not exactly the words) for "There he is!"
Eyes
Nose
Go go!
No, no, no, while wagging his finger 'No' at you
Nana - Sabrina?  He's trying...
Girl (signs it as he says it, so that helps)

He has a wonderful little 'shake it off' dance for spills, surprises, and falls.  he wiggles his hands like he is shaking them off, and moves his hips back and forth.  He also spins frequently.

Sabrina's 4th

Sabrina's principal birthday wish was to have a pink strawberry cake with strawberries on the top.  And she wanted a Sleeping Beauty doll.  And she wanted for certain friends to attend.  I am happy to report, we were able to give her all this and more!  :)

I am so grateful that 4 is an age where we can delight her with gifts that are relatively simple to provide.  I know there will come a time when we aren't able to do this, but I'm glad we aren't there yet.  Sabrina's best cousin & friend Mary Stevens was the highlight of her birthday weekend, but all of her grandparents & uncle placed a close second.  It was a smooth (but busy) time at Austin Children's Museum.  We felt really good about the food, decorations, and the wonderful friends & family who joined us as guests.  Sabrina was a social butterfly, quickly moving all around the museum to visit & join different friends doing all sorts of activities.  We couldn't keep up with her!  Samuel enjoyed the full attention of his Gigi, completely unaware that this was not a party for him! :)

We were thrilled to receive all of the gifts for the Austin Children's Shelter that the guests generously brought to the party.  We are excited to deliver all those presents next week to the shelter, and Sabrina's excited to go to the store to pick out her gift for the kids.  I loved that in picking a gift for an unknown child, each of us can get something we truly think will be fun without worrying if the gift has already been received, or is age appropriate, etc., etc.  It puts the fun back in gift giving if you ask me!  Here are a few pictures from the birthday weekend extravaganza.  Looking forward to sharing my Dad's awesome photographs of the occasion very soon.
